A protrusive or prominent forehead ridge and frontal bone is a masculinizing look which can often lead to sunken in looking eyes. To improve facial harmony and create a more feminizing balance to the face, hence ‘softening’ ones look – forehead bone reduction is done.
The amount of forehead bone reduction varies based on the amount of one’s prominence. The amount is ultimately decided during consultation and with the help of pre operative x-ray images. Usually around 3 mm of forehead bone is reduced or shaved away.
To accomplish forehead bone reduction, an incision is made along the hairline and dissection to the brow ridge offers visualization of the prominence which is carefully shaved off using a high speed titanium shaving system.
Often, this procedure is combined with a brow lift or forehead lowering procedure.
