A lower body lift is a procedure done to reshape the waistline contour following massive weight loss or pregnancy. It entails removing excess skin and excess fat distribution from the lower trunk, 360 degrees. This would involve a traditional abdominoplasty with removal of excess skin and fat and tightening of the abdominal muscles to improve contour. But in addition, it involves removing excess skin and fat from the thighs and lower back, essentially a lateral thigh lift and buttocks lift. The procedure has undergone multiple name changes over the years including lower body lift, a belt lipectomy, or a circumferential abdominoplasty.
The exact body lift procedure will differ depending on each patient’s body type and desired outcomes. Generally, an incision is placed below the underwear line circumferentially around the lower waist in order to improve shape and contour 360 degrees around the patient. Excess skin will be removed, as will excess fat deposits. The skin will be pulled together and sutured to create a slimmer silhouette, lifted outer thighs and buttocks. Often, Dr. Mirmanesh will use tissue typically discarded to augment a patient’s buttocks.
