Lower eyelid lift surgery, or lower blepharoplasty, is a procedure done to correct excess skin or puffiness on the lower eyelids that can cause patients to appear tired or aged. This procedure can help patients restore a more youthful and energized appearance. Individuals with deep grooves under the eyes, puffy lower eyelids, excess skin and wrinkles under the eyelids, or bags and dark circles can often benefit from lower eyelid surgery. The surgery can also be used to tighten the lower lids and correct sagging lids that may have pulled away from the eyeball, a condition that is known as an ectropion.
During lower eyelid lift surgery, an incision will be created just below the lower lash line. Through this incision, excess skin and fat will be removed. A transconjunctival incision, which is created inside of the lower eyelid, is another option used to redistribute or remove excess fat. During this technique, no excess skin is removed unless an additional incision is created externally.
Incisions will be closed with very fine sutures to reduce the chance of scarring, most of which will dissolve on their own without the need for removal.
Often, Dr Mirmanesh can combine the surgical procedure with a laser or chemical peel to even further optimize your outcome.
